Jewish Identity in Early Rabbinic Writings (Arbeiten Zur Geschichte Des Antiken Judentums Und Des Urchristentums, Vol 23) by Sacha Ster

Thursday, July 28, 2016
In his assiduous analysis of rabbinical literature, author Sacha Stern employs Talmudic sources (Mishna, Tosefta, Yerushalmi, and Bavli), many different Midrashim, and other sources. (pp. xi-xii). As part of my review of this and related works, I have regularly consulted the online Babylonian Talmud (Soncino edition), and have included specific references to it below. All my specific references below are from the Bavli, in CAPS, and from this online source >>more...

This work was written in 1933 (my review based on the original 1933 edition), not long after Hitler had come to power. In fact, the ending of this book states it as a rebuke to the Nazi book-burning of Jewish books on May 10, 1933. (p. 161) >>more...

Germany and the Jewish Question (Paperback)

Wednesday, April 13, 2016
Nowadays, academics (most of whom are leftists), and many Jews, are prone to blame the Nazi movement in general, and the Holocaust in particular, on centuries of Christian teachings about Jews (e. g, deicide). Ironically, author Wiehe, a Nazi, and author of this book, though presenting a considerable variety of arguments against Jews, never once accuses Jews of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. >>more...

4Insights into Theodor Herzl, His Supporters and Non-Supporters, and early Zionism

Friday, May 1, 2015
Theodor Herzl was an atheist. (pp. 22-23). His mindset on the Jewish situation had changed with time. He went from German nationalism to cosmopolitanism, and from cosmopolitanism to a belief in the Jewish exodus from Europe. (p. 131). Herzl’s vision of the State of Israel was one in which the Arabs would welcome the Jews, and both peoples would live in amity. (p. 407). Instead, precisely the opposite happened. >>more...

There are many reviews of this item already posted. These other reviews inform the reader on the essential content of this work, and I will not repeat them. I take a totally different approach.
