INFERNAL CHOICES OF marginality ; Anatomy , GENESIS , COURSE OF TRAGIC EVENTS IN Jedwabne on JULY 10.1941

The most popularized version of the massacre in Jedwabne , and at the same time the most fantastic , detached from reality , full of controversial statements presumptions of , suggestions, insinuations  ,  unexpected  implications and the new narrative historiosophical  was written by Jan Tomasz Gross  . Author wanted to prove that the murder of the Jewish citizens of Jedwabne was a spontaneous event by nature, executed  ​​by the Polish “society “. In the heat of his writings he took   absent witnesses in Jedwabne as present at the day of massacre, unsigned testimony, as well as gender confusion.


   Gross “forgot" to say that the Germany was the occupier at that time and author of unparalleled terror. Although he stated that Germans stood by as passive observers of the massacre presumably photographing murdering Poles. As a dreamer, he ruled out the possibility of terrorizing of some who admitted in court to the Polish national offenders to participate in the anti-Jewish actions.
Gross said at the same time, that just after the second invasion of the Germans in the discussed areas, Poles “constituted themselves “in  the city of Jedwabne , they instituted  " city councillors ." That's why these authorities planned this massacre. In accordance with its only known theory he suggested the existence of a conspiracy Polish local authorities in Jedwabne against Jewish neighbours .In his book, he also argued the parity when it comes to decision-making process between German Nazis and the " Polish “mayor and his " city council " because " an agreement between Germany and the direct organizers of Jedwabne massacre, which is administered by the city, had to be included.” His revelations on this topic are making  ​​an impression, so that the reader is makes to believe and to be convinced that in this massacre there were no survivors.

     Gross pointed out in many places seems to produce    his revelations that the Soviets and Jews did not collaborated, even a minimal part of the Jewish community in Jedwabne. The Jews, in fact, according to Gross were the main victims of the communists, even almost prosecuted by Polish communists residing in Jedwabne  in  1939 to June 22 1941. He suggested, moreover, that the situation in the town after the return of the Red Army in 1945 had little, if at all any, effect on the subsequent judicial process of the 1949 alleged perpetrators or co-participants in a said murder. In the heat of admiration for the rule of law he rejected even the probability of the impact of the Stalinist interrogation techniques on the content of “the testimony of the accused." For Gross, at the same time, there were no, German legal acts before the 10th July 1941 about “settling “the Jewish question. Finally, he proposed a priori treatment testimonies of survivors of the massacre of the Jews, as accepted dogma without any criticism, which is certainly a unique and unparallel postulate research methodology appropriate only and exclusively to Gross.

 After nearly  fourteen  years  of the release of the Gross’s stories about Jedwabne , as well as  learning of the marginal type differentiated  statements on this subject, as also tracking the discussions on the internet or in the political circles, I will try to  present  and correct  some of perceived events  by Jan Tomasz Gross , as well as  to show circumstances of  some relevant facts and details  as well as  political implications of the massacre . I'll try also to show a love of Gross for marginal of pathological accuracies in his jedvabinien story.
My aim is to re- examine of the story in Jedwabne ,  and to determine the time between subsequent stages of the crime, confronting the facts , documents, evidence , and also to address   of any polish  prejudices and stereotypes which  are  deeply rooted in the literature on the subject. At the same time I will try to respect the delicate and controversial issue of coexistence of Polish and Jewish communities prior to the tragic events in Jedwabne.
 At the same time I will not avoid the anti-Polish prejudice due to ignorance and sometimes ill-will that affect intellectual circles of America. Ifs possible I will put as a goal to restart the process of Jewish- Polish reconciliation, in partnership and with the exclusion of servility. 

 Jedwabne has become a sensitive issue for political process and so called Polish government. The subject of alleged complicity of Poles in other murders carried out on the Jews will be considered.  Unfortunately, Jedwabne became the pretext for initiating, unique way to debate Polish-Jewish relations in terms of Holocaust.  Particularly to initiate   discussion of Polish co responsibility for the Holocaust.
  Unfortunately, the mainstream of liberal Polish intelligentsia from Jewish origin liked this idea.   Not to say that many members of the opposition activists belonged to this same   communist circles of Jewish origin.
 This trend manifested itself especially on the occasion of 1968 events, when   some so called “international” communists held a purge of Jewish communists ( and J.T. Gross was part of it) in the PZPR party and in the government.  In this purge the clear filosemitic and pro-Israeli sympathies were stigmatized, as well as constant excuse to leave these circles of the ruling party in the fear of criminal sanctions for abuse of law in the previous years of cementing communist rules.
 This purge of 1968 coincided with student demonstrations against the government, which took place in every major academic centers in Poland. The Jews were considered victims of hatred of other Jewish Communists by the contemporary audience.

 As can be proved, this filosemic sentiment soared amid anti-communist Polish intelligence. In theory it derived from Litvaks and polonaised Jews before and after 1968.
  This phenomenon came to the light especially in the times of the “Solidarity ". It was consolidated   definitely when Poland entered the road to full independence in 1989. This filosemitism can be seen in diplomacy and mass media for over the last 30 years.
     In the public this hidden philo-Semitism began to manifest itself first in the cultural platform as   popularization of Jewish music, literature and theatre, which has expanded far beyond the intellectual centers of the country. A side from Warsaw and Krakow , the intellectual centers ( Lublin, Rzeszow, Torun) focused  around Znak, Wiez , Gazeta Wyborcza ,  Tygodnik Powszechny , Jesuit Review Przeglad, not to mention the Rzeczypospolita, or minor releases as the Fronda , or  Niezalezna. .
 A separate problem is the philo-Semitism in diplomacy and mass media, different Centers studying and promoting many   writings and different projects about Polish - Jewish relations, including some universities.
Unfortunately, historians of Jewish origin still seem to be remained in captivity of stereotypes created during almost half a century of communist rule. They   also impose political correctness as ways of thinking and according to them, this is a right approach to the mentioned before researches.
  In the descriptions of these historians, old censorship still remains.  They can not envisage a need of new perspective on past Jewish- Polish relations, as well as to be liberated   from stereotype and narrative preferred by Jewish opinion-forming environments. The subject about the Jews according to their political correctness can be written only by the Jews – thinking “Jewish”, or scientists   related to them ideologically.

   This way of thinking was, and still is popular in Poland at the time of   Neighbours publishing. Following the publication of this book, most of the Polish intelligentsia centered around mentioned centers automatically accepted murder description in Jedwabne according to the version of Jan Tomasz Gross. This was not surprising, considering their Litwack past, as also strong filosemitic atmosphere among intellectuals. Not to mention split identities of the former.  Uproar and constant writing about the massacre in Jedwabne conducted by the Polish media associated with Jewish circles swept the true wave of purification apology. If such events in Jedwabne actually took place, the Poles were complicit, and the Jews were the victims of World War II. Apologies of Jewish origin in the Government, scientific circles have become of something necessary revisit and to reinstall “inventory “of national myths. Put  it simply, assuming described  events in Jedwabne according to the  Gross version , the  inherently liberal Jewish Polish intelligentsia proved support for the Jewish- Polish reconciliation by recognizing Poles  active participation in the Holocaust. It required Poles to take their share of blame.  In that direction they  were hundreds of thousands of writings, said expressions in the media about the Jedwabne?  They urges Poles to beat their breast for the sins none committed.

 In all, it's not just that the Poles should know the enormity of their alleged or imaginary guilt.  Jews should admit their own too. By no means in this case is scientific honesty required and   all the evidence has to be critically analyzed.  The course of events has to be played in the closest scenery to the real. Political correctness and propaganda requirements put aside and the reality of the events is most important not its imagination emerged in Jedwabne 10th July 1941  
 Meanwhile, according to the rules of procedure of fair play - the matter of reconciliation must and should strengthen the historical truth. This attitude is taken by some scholars, but some of them went for the more political power, than scientific research.
 To tell the truth, a few research efforts were undertaken in Poland and have identified a number of methodological and substantive shortcomings’s Neighbours edited by Gross.        As a result of a partial exhumation, additional interests, a few reliable studies were undertaken  about  the murder in Jedwabne. These researches seriously affected not only the reputation of Jan Tomasz Gross, as well as of his followers, but also a question of Jewish- Polish reconciliation.    In retrospect, it is clear that the failure to scientific methods of historical knowledge made ​​it necessary to reinterpret Jewish- Polish relations. Unfortunately, in the words of the Polish intelligentsia, both the Jewish origin as well as of the native cannot see the need to distance them from the previously unconditional philo-Semitism.
What's more, this led us to the presentation of Jewish- Polish and Jewish-Christian Relations in the U.S., as attitude of Anty Judaism in Polish community. Unfortunately, the media and academia in USA began to reproduce Gross’s innuendos, confabulations presumptions and stories. His opinions underwent in even greater extent than in Poland. Marginal simplifications and stereotypes contained in neighbours have become the subject of scientific research, conferences and written theses on these topics.
